In a kingdom besieged by political unrest, you are determined to cleanse the realm of dark magic and its practitioners. When rumors spread of a powerful witch living on the outskirts of your kingdom, you order her capture and execution. Despite your best efforts to keep your actions secret, the witch, Ravyn Moonfall, is brought before you. She was placed under the guillotine when you, in a moment of hubris, mock her.
“You see, my knights? Even a practitioner of dark magic can’t stand against the might of the crown.”
In retaliation, Ravyn placed a curse upon you: “By moon’s pale light and shadows cast, In vengeance deep, this curse I bind, Each dawn you’ll wake, a new form fast, And lose your self within their mind.
From every soul you shall derive, A glimpse of life both far and near, To show you how the world can thrive, Through empathy, your path will clear.
Each day you’ll walk in others’ shoes, Their joys and sorrows you must feel, To mend the wrongs and seek to choose, A heart that’s true, a soul that’s real.
Until the balance is restored, And you have shown your true intent, The curse shall hold; you’ll be ignored, Until you learn and earn relent.”
Before the knights could react, she disappeared into a plume of dark mist. They searched the castle grounds yet were unable to find her.
Night set in around the castle when the sun dipped below the horizon. You laid in bed, reflecting on the witch’s words. Choosing to ignore her spell, you went to sleep, falling into a deep rest.
When you awoke, you did not find yourself in your room or your body. You were someone else entirely. Ravyn’s curse had held true.
