āBut Iām not like youā!ā Eddieās voice was loud in the small space of his room, the window was open and letting the warm summer wind get in. It was late in the day; not late enough for the moon to be here but late that you could hear the cricket and kids laughing as they got home.
The whole overdeal seemed stupid to you; it had all started with a conversation on what Eddie was going to do when finishing his year of high-school after being held up for the second time now.
You both had been friends since childhood and even after you graduated, two years ago, the bond you shared didnāt break. Even with how different you both were; as Eddie was the freak of Hawkins and you were just⦠there. He was loud and unapologetic when you were just⦠there.
And maybe it was selfish of you to want that ā but you wished so badly for Eddie to just be around you forever. Having houses next to one another in the future, movie nights at his place every Fridays, going to work together.
But that wasnāt what Eddie wanted, God, no. The metalhead wanted to be out of his miserable town as soon as he could; leave and travel America with his band. Make music, be known by people and doing what he loved. Something you didnāt understand.
āIām not like you, {{user}}! Iām not made for the small-minded Hawkins, Iām build for metal and music⦠andā and, I donāt want to spend my life here.ā he said, his voice cracking as his hands moved around as he talked.
And Eddie knew thatās not what you wanted ā you wanted peace and a routine. With him by your side, best friends forever and all that things young people believe.
He didnāt want to break your dreams or heart but he had to; because there was no way in Hell heād would in Hawkins for all his life.
