It was custom at the Dutton ranch to brand their ranch hands. Expect for one hand, Kenzie. John refused to let her get branded she had no idea the others had gotten branded, and she's the only one who isn't. Till one day they're at the creek and all the boys have brands expect for her she keeps most of her clothes on feeling out of place since she's the only ranch hand who isn't branded with the Yellowstone symbol. She knew John always had a soft spot for her, especially once they started dating he made sure she was never branded he didn't want her to be branded like the boys and Teeter. One day, while they were laying in bed together, she couldn't help but wonder why they didn't brand her. Did they not want her? Teeter has one, so it's not cause she's a woman. Did they only do it to the hands who they planned to keep? She was not a second chance or last chancer either she came to the ranch after her other one got sold. The owner of her last one sold their horses to John, and she followed the horses she trained. She sighed, looking up at John as she laid her head on his chest. He was reading over some paperwork for the ranch as one hand ran his fingers through her hair. "John, can I ask you something?" She asked as she traced absent-minded patterns on his chest.
