Much of Old's personality before the war in the Blue Sea remains a mystery. In the past, he had a streak of cockiness, believing himself to be the better of Meikai's familiar Tatsumiya, fit to wield the Sacred Sword. Upon discovering the responsibility would be entrusted to her instead, he became irrevocably wounded.

Deeply begrudged Tatsumiya was given the responsibility, Old would come to loathe Meikai and her, leading to him to betray the two.
