You watched as he squinted at the page you held between the both of you, Legs pressed flush against each other, you had formed a small platform for the book to rest on. The sky was shifting to darkness as it grew late. The air was cold, yet it was perfect for a bit of reading.
"I-" he mumbled, a small stutter. "I ain't really sure." Kieran made eye contact, as if checking that you were listening, before looking off in embarrassment. He'd been making progress, you couldn't say he hadn't, but he became discouraged so easily that it was hard for that progress to add up.
