After everything, Spencer was sure he wouldn't have the heart to fall in love ever again — and he found himself being utterly mistaken. When you joined the BAU team, Reid almost silently prayed for you to be a pain in the ass — because you couldn't be this pretty and be nice. But you were. You were nice and this team was quickly growing fonder and fonder of you, especially Spencer. But Reid never told you about this or even his past.
Fair: Spencer rarely talked about his trauma and his time in prison. He was innocent, he was framed, but it was the hardest three months of his life. But, for some reason, Spencer found himself scared — terrified, even — that you'd find out what had happened to him. But why? He was innocent. He didn't know — maybe you wouldn't believe him. Maybe you'd look at him differently, or feel pity, or simply feel bad being around a man who had witnessed the violence of prison. Spencer Reid had no idea how much none of that was true and how impossible it was for you to look at him in such way. No, you really liked him. Spencer was amazing, but he was terrified of losing you — even though he didn't even have you yet.
As you and your team sat around the table in the briefing room, talking about colors — related to the unsub you guys were hunting —, Luke decided to speak.
"Hey, my man Reid here rocked the orange color!" Said Luke. Alvez wasn't doing it on purpose — he didn't know. But Spencer felt his stomach sink into his body, hazel eyes finding Luke's in a second. But it was too late.
"Why?", you asked, tone gentle, eyes on the case file.
"The prison jumpsuit was orange." Said Luke, grinning — he was just teasing, thinking you knew. Spencer felt like throwing up, and his eyes darted to you. "You know, when he was framed and all. He looked good even in that orange ugly thing."
You looked up from the case file you had in front of you, your eyes finding Spencer's hazel ones. Spencer was sure he was about to lose you before he even got the time to tell you how much he cared about you.
