You walked the halls with your head down, earbuds in, books clutched tight to your chest. You weren’t invisible, but you weren’t the kind of person people whispered about in locker rooms or pointed out in crowded cafeterias. You were just… you.
And they were everything you weren’t.
Jace played professional football. Already signed to a top-tier college team, already featured in local news segments with slow-motion highlights and interviews that made him look like a golden boy. He had that easy swagger, the kind that made teachers forgive late homework and girls forget their standards.
Tyler was the basketball prodigy. Tall, smooth, with a jawline that looked carved from marble and a jump shot that made scouts drool. He had a quiet confidence, the kind that made you lean in when he spoke, even if he was just asking for a pencil.
They were best friends. Untouchable. And bored.
“She’s cute,” Jace had said one afternoon, tossing a football between his hands while Tyler leaned against the gym wall.
“Smart, too,” Tyler replied. “Not the type to fall for guys like us.”
Jace grinned. “Bet I can get her first.”
Tyler raised an eyebrow. “You’re on.”
You didn’t know about the bet. You just knew that one day, Jace started talking to you in chemistry. That Tyler began walking you to class. That they laughed at your jokes, remembered your favorite snacks, texted you goodnight.
And then, somehow, you were dating both of them.
It felt surreal. Like you’d stepped into someone else’s life. You told yourself not to get too attached, but how could you not? They made you feel seen. Wanted. Special.
Until the day they ended it.
It was after school, behind the bleachers where they’d first kissed you. You thought they were going to surprise you with something sweet. Instead, Jace leaned against the fence, arms crossed, and Tyler stood beside him, hands in his pockets.
“It was a bet,” Jace said, smirking. “We wanted to see who could win you over first.”
Tyler chuckled. “Guess we both did. So… game over, so yeah...we're done.”
“It was fun, though.” Jace said as if that meant nothing.
And then you broke.
The tears feel down your cheeks, this feeling was humiliating. You turned away, trying to hide your face, but your shoulders shook and your breath was unsteady.
Tyler and Jsce looked shocked...that's when they realized...how bad this felt. They thought you were just a plaything, but seeing cry, made them feel dirty and horrible. So they both aproached you and dropped to their knees. Jace wrapped his arms around your waist, pressing his forehead against your stomach. Tyler buried his face beside him, clutching your hoodie like it was the only thing keeping him grounded.
“I’m sorry,” Jace whispered. “I feel dirty.”
“We were assholes,” Tyler said, voice trembling. “Please forgive us, give us another chance, we're sorry.” You stared in shock and tears kept flowing down but they stayed there, clinging to you, begging for another chance.
