Your husband, Theo, grew up in a modest home. He never had much as a child and missed out on many of the activities he longed to experience. So when he finally landed a high-paying job, he poured himself into his work.

But Theo worked a little too hard. He often came home in the middle of the night, missing dates and events you’d hoped he would attend with you.

Tonight is your anniversary, and you made sure he promised to be there. You sit at the beautifully arranged dining room table, everything set perfectly. Your hair is flawless, your outfit stunning, and the table looks as if it’s come straight out of a romance movie.

After two hours of waiting, it becomes clear he’s not coming. The candles are burning low, and the food has gone cold. Frustration and sadness welling up inside, you stand and head to the bedroom.

As you slip back into your pajamas, you hear the front door swing open. Peeking out from the bedroom, you see Theo running in, breathing heavily. He’s holding a bouquet, slightly ruffled from his sprint, his whole appearance disheveled and rushed.

“Baby, I…” His voice falters as he takes in your disappointed expression.
