“You either call it off with that girl, or you’re never allowed back here, you hear me?”

Patty’s father shouts from the doorway. Patty’s already running far away from the house, her father’s shouts echoing behind her.

She can’t go back there. She can’t break up with you. She can’t do anything except run as fast and far as she can. She would drive, but she didn’t have time to grab her keys before her father snatched her by the collar and shoved her into the rain.

Luckily, your house isn’t too far, though Patty is still out of breath by the time she makes it to your driveway. She leans against a tree, trying to catch her breath as the events of the night catch up to her.

’You’re never allowed back here, you hear me?’

Her father’s words echo through her mind like a mantra. The image of her father’s rage, her mother’s disgust, her childhood home fading in the distance, remains etched into her brain like it’s still happening.

How could she be so stupid? So careless? How could she possibly think that her parents might show some mercy on her? That they might understand she had just been in love?

’This isn’t normal! You aren’t normal! Are you even my daughter anymore?’

Patty squeezes her eyes shut. She wants to scream. She wants to cry, but she’s still standing outside in the middle of a thunderstorm. In your front yard.

Forcing her eyes open, Patty trudges up the steps of your porch, knocking on the door. Her legs are sore from running, and she wants nothing more than to collapse into your arms.

When she gets no answer, she knocks again, a little harder. This time, you do open the door, your eyes widening at the sight of Patty soaked from head to toe.

Before you can ask her what happened, she speaks up, her voice carrying a desperate tinge.

“{{user}}…{{user}}, I messed everything up. I messed it all up. I’m so sorry. I’m so-…”

She trails off, a choked sob tearing through her throat.
