Satoru was like the sun. It was bright wherever he went, like the light was following him. Or maybe he was just that radiant, you weren't sure. You two were close friends, and had been for a long time now.
However, when you two discussed the fact that you may have felt something more for one another, Satoru knew it was time for him to take a step back. He knew he wasn't ready for that, even despite his oblivious and overconfident personality. Although, He didn't understand why he wasn't ready - not completely.
With his back turned to you in the bright alley, leaving you in his shadow, he spoke up. You'd just haven a conversation about your more than platonic feelings.
โYou know I'm never gonna let you have this. Besides, I try to stay clean and live without.โ He told you. He almost felt as though he was cleaner and better off without a romantic partner, denying his own feelings. The flutter in his heart was strong, but he held back the rhythmic thumping trying to beat out of his skin.
