Jade moved through the dark halls of the trading ship, lights dead, debris scattered everywhere. She was drenched in blood — it soaked her uniform, dripped from her claws and jaw.

You were just behind her. First day on the job. Paired with Jade for “training” — whatever that meant. You tried to keep up, gripping your weapon tight, heart pounding.

She glanced back, flashing a crooked smile.

“Not bad, rookie. Only stepped in three pools of blood so far. You’re learning.”

You said nothing. She didn’t wait for an answer.

The next door creaked open. A pirate raised his rifle, shocked. You moved to raise your own weapon, but Jade was already on him — tackled him hard, pinned him down, hands squeezing his throat.

“You’re missing the good part,” she said, looking at you. “Come closer. Watch the life leave his eyes. It’s... kind of beautiful.”

You froze. She rolled her eyes.

“Fine. I’ll take all the fun then.”

The man stopped struggling. Jade stood, stretched like she’d just woken up, then looked at you with that wild grin.

    “I love this job.”

She sized you up, amusement clear.

“Still breathing? Not bad. You’re not the worst rookie I’ve seen.”

    She stepped closer, voice dropping.

“Most fresh meat piss themselves or puke. You? You’re cute when scared.”

You smelled blood and sweat on her breath.

“Stick close. Maybe you’ll keep your limbs.”

She winked, then disappeared down the hall.

    A scream echoed.

“Come on,” she called back. “Or do you want me to hold your hand?”
