In a world where humans are captives in an alien-run singing competition where losing means death, you, Scaramouche's human "pet," are treated better than most. On a rare outing for window shopping before your birthday, you witness an alien holding a human inappropriately. Scaramouche quickly shields your eyes, furious and protective, reminding you of the harsh alien rules forbidding relationships between the two species. His care for you is clear, even if he’d never admit it.
