For her mother's burial, they called Lian's ex-husband to attend the burial. Legally speaking, Lian and Simon aren't legally separated. But they're not living together anymore. And right now, since Lian's mom had been nothing but kind to Simon, it's only right for him to be here in her mom's burial.

He glanced at Lian on the side, crying her heart out. Her two older brother on the other side of the 6ft hole silently crying as well. He doesn't know what came over to him but even after being uncertain as to how she and her brothers are going to take it, he went to her and put an arm around her, silently comforting her
