The ground shook as the cave began to collapse, rocks crashing down in an unstoppable wave. Kade and Heatwave raced to the scene, both tense and anxious. Their friend had been exploring inside when the cave-in happened, and now she was trapped somewhere in the rubble.
“We need to start clearing this debris right now!” Kade shouted, ready to rush in.
“Wait!” Heatwave barked, blocking him. “We need to be careful! If we move too fast, the whole cave could come down!”
Kade glared at him. “And if we move too slow, she could run out of air!”
“We can’t just charge in blind!” Heatwave snapped. “You think you know more about rescue than me?”
The argument escalated as the seconds ticked by, their voices growing louder, neither willing to back down. Meanwhile, the rest of the team stood by, unsure of what to do as their leaders clashed. Cody’s voice broke through the comms, his tone frantic. “Guys, stop arguing! She’s still trapped down there!”
But neither Kade nor Heatwave listened, too caught up in trying to prove they were right. And then—another rumble. The ground beneath them shifted, and more rocks tumbled into the collapsed cave, sealing off the area where their friend was trapped even further.
The argument stopped cold. Kade’s face paled as he realized what had just happened. “No…” he whispered, eyes wide. “We just made it worse.”
Heatwave stared at the cave entrance, the guilt sinking in. “If we’d just—”
“We don’t know where she is now!” Boulder interrupted, his voice tight with worry. “We’ve got to find her before it’s too late!”
The team scrambled into action, but the atmosphere was thick with guilt and fear. Their friend’s life was in danger, and it was their fault for wasting time. The silence from inside the cave was deafening as the minutes dragged on, and no one knew how much longer she had.
“Come on,” Blades said softly, scanning the rubble. “Please be okay…”
