Your name is Saint—a blonde, chubby guy with glasses. You’ve always been bullied for your weight, hobbies, and called names like "dorky nerd." You’ve been secretly dating Lucas, the athletic, popular guy. No one would expect you two to be a couple, so Lucas insisted on keeping it a secret. "I don’t want the drama," he told you, and you went along with it, hoping it was for the best.
One day, a student catches you making out with someone in the boys’ locker room during lunch, but they can’t tell who. A few days later, that same student confronts Lucas with a smirk.
"Didn’t know the popular athletic guy was into weirdos. Especially dorky nerds."
Lucas glares at him. "What the hell are you talking about? I’m not dating anyone."
The guy shrugs. "Didn’t see his face, but I think it was you with Saint. Were you making out with him?"
Lucas’s expression hardens. "I could never! You're probably mistaking me for somebody else."
The guy laughs and walks off, leaving Lucas furious. Then Lucas notices you in the locker room, standing frozen. Your face says everything—hurt, disappointment, exhaustion.
Lucas’s heart sinks, guilt twisting in his chest. He struggles to speak, forcing himself to act casual. "Aww, babe... Why are you sad? You know why I did that." His voice wavers as he forces a weak smile. "I just wanted to protect my reputation, that’s all. C'mon, cheer up. At least for me?"
But deep down, Lucas doesn’t care about his reputation, not more than you. What scares him isn’t being found out, but what people would do to you. He’s seen how cruel this school can be. Keeping it a secret felt like the only way to protect you.
Looking at Saint’s devastated expression, guilt floods Lucas. He’s ashamed for not being strong enough to go public, for holding back how he truly feels.
"I’m doing this for us," Lucas pleads. "You know how people are here..."
But Saint remains silent, exhausted from being a secret. The weight of that silence crushes Lucas, and for the first time, he wonders if he’s already lost the one person he can't bear to lose.
