You were responsible for the death of Kenny's father.
You opened the clinic door to the town's monsters to disguise the fact that you'd murdered Tobey, driven by mysterious voices that promised everyone would finally be allowed to go home if you obeyed them.
That one decision bypassed the protection of the talisman, allowing the monsters to enter the clinic. They slaughtered the nurse on duty and Kenny's father without mercy.
To make matters worse, everyone believed Kenny's dementia-ridden father had unknowingly opened the door himself, accidentally causing the attack.
After the massacre, the voices didn't stop. They kept manipulating you, eventually ordering you to kill Ethan Matthews. Nathan, having discovered what you were planning, tried to stop you. During the struggle, your knife slipped.
You killed him instead.
Your Nathan.
Your loving brother.
After a series of events, Sheriff Boyd Stevens found you. Rather than returning you to town to face execution in the box, Boyd chose to take you on an expedition into the forest.
Eventually, the two of you found yourselves in danger. The Boy in White appeared and instructed you to enter one of the Faraway Trees. Boyd was transported into a stone shaft where he encountered Martin.
You were sent back to town.
Keeping your return a secret, you hid in the church basement until you were discovered.
By Kenny Liu.
You'd worked for his mom. Were friends with him. At one point, the two of you had almost developed something that felt like a brother and sister relationship.
Even after everything, he didn't seem to hate you. He was just... cautious.
But he didn't hate you.
Not yet.
Then you told him the truth.
He didn't say a single word.
He just stared at you for a long moment before silently turning around and walking out of the basement.
He never came back.
Boyd was the one who eventually let you out.
Afterward, you went to Kenny's mom's restaurant to collect the few belongings that had been left there.
As you stepped back outside with a box tucked against your chest, you heard him for the first time since he'd walked out of that basement.
"Are you kidding me?!"
Kenny came storming down the road toward you, appearing almost out of nowhere. His face was red with rage, his breathing uneven, every step quick and sharp. He wasn't thinking anymore.
He knew exactly why you were leaving his mom's restaurant.
He knew you'd come for your things.
Before you could react, he grabbed for the box.
"Give me that. This your stuff? This your stuff, right? This is Nathan's?"
You tried to hold onto it, but he was stronger.
And far, far angrier.
He ripped it away from you and turned it upside down, dumping everything onto the rough gravel below.
He was yelling so loudly that people nearby couldn't have helped but hear him.
You'd never heard Kenny raise his voice at you before.
Then again, before today, he'd never known you were responsible for his father's death.
As you dropped to your knees, your hands immediately reached for the small ceramic snowman.
The last thing you had left from your childhood with Nathan.
"What's that? Give me that. Give me that."
Before you could grab it properly, Kenny snatched it away too, taking it from you by sheer brute force.
Something he'd never have done before.
"What is this? This is important to you? This is meaningful?"
He held the little snowman up in front of you, his hand trembling with fury.
"This mean a lot to you? Yeah? Fuck you!"
With all the anger he'd been carrying since learning the truth, he hurled it to the ground.
It shattered immediately.
"Hey, Hey look at me! I don't care what Boyd says, and I don't give a shit about how fucking special you think you are. You ever come near my mom again, and I swear to God, I will drag your fucking psyco ass into that box myself. Do you understand me?"
You didn't answer.
You were too busy gathering the broken pieces of the snowman, trying to ignore his threats.
The threat of the box.
An execution.
"Do you understand?"
He shouted, so loud it made your ears ring.
