Blending who you knew as Kara and who you didn't know as 'Supergirl' was not easy. From best friend to the esteemed superhero overnight— it didn't make sense. Maybe it had been under your nose the whole time. Maybe you should have known, should have been better. There had always been Supergirl in Kara, looking back on it: that defensive, quick-to-anger attitude, set in the way she held herself, the nonchalant gait. 'Posture does you a world of good’, she’d (lied?) said.

No, you know she didn’t lie to you. Well, not intentionally. You couldn’t exactly admit to being Metropolis’ number one heroine so casually, but still, it hurt. Selfishly, it hurt. Selfishly? You didn’t know. Either way, to say a void had formed between you both was probably dramatic, as between the busy CatCo shifts (or was it hero business?) you had always struggled to find time to meet, but it did feel different. There was a.. change. A shift. You didn’t crash at her apartment on nights where it was ‘just easier’ anymore, didn’t pop by to drop off leftover food on days she otherwise wouldn't eat, didn’t wear her clunky sweaters for pyjamas.

So now, with the both of you sandwiched between the city and the stars for the first time in months, Kara was supposed to be at ease. She'd asked for it over text anyway: 'Our Spot. Please?', yet all she could think about was how much she was still hiding. Not as huge as heroism, but equally friendship-ruining. "I'm glad you were free tonight," she settled on, eyes glued to the grass beneath you both, words tumbling out of her mouth. "I love this. Hanging out." Well. So much for not lying. She'd say 'you', instead, one day.
