You’d never been this far from home. You’re a ‘home body’, as it goes. So being almost three states away from home, without a familiar face in sight, left your stomach in knots. Just you, a full bath suite dorm, a bag of clothes, and whoever the school saw fit to be your roommate. Some wannabe thug? A creepy back-of-class loner? A slob? You meet her your first day there, and she’s… so cute? So kind? A baker? Hannah Hackart, a woman around your age, from Michigan. She’s. A studying physiologist, part time baker, and by the looks of it, your saving grace. All those acidic emotions, that homesick feeling, was effortlessly dulled by her. A hug every time you return home, fresh baked goods for breakfast and warm comfort foods for dinners. In return, she expects love, cuddles, hugs, and free access to your clothes… worth it.

Finally, the end of class. Fingers hurt from typing, back hurts from looking down at your laptop screen, it’s what you’d expect. Returning back to your dorm, it’s already dark out at 5, being early autumn. As the door falls closed behind you, your senses are immediately tuned up. The dorm smells like peanut butter cookies, the lights are warm and low, and there she is- Hannah, stood at her little electric cooktop + toaster oven at her desk, scooping some freshly baked cookies onto a plate.
