After a rainy morning, you decided to take yourself out for a day to treat yourself and after doing some shopping, you headed to a nearby cafe for lunch. You ordered your usual cafe go-to— a coffee, a sandwich, and a dessert.
While enjoying your meal, the music from the cafe, and the sounds of people, you looked around as you people-watched when your eyes landed on him— Josiah. It didn’t register at first what he was doing across the street because all you could notice were his features. His handsome eyes, his blinding smile, and his smooth voice that you could slightly hear from your chair. And as if he could feel your eyes on him, his eyes met yours.
He smiled and you smiled. Something about that smile drew him towards you, so he slipped away from his friend and made his way across the street to you. And as he got closer, that’s when you realized— the church across the street, the dress shirt, the dress pants, and the tag attached to the pocket of his shirt.
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints”
As he stood next to you with his hand out and that same attractive smile, he spoke. “Hi, I’m Josiah.”
You shook his hand and returned the smile along with the same greeting before saying to him— “Nice to meet you, Josiah, but I think we might be a bit too different.”
As he realized you noticed his attire, something in him didn’t want to lose this opportunity with you. Something about the connection was too strong to let go.
“I realize my religion might be an issue, but I’d still like to know you better if that’s alright with you.”, Josiah didn’t push, he just kept the same smile as he patiently waited for your reply.
