After you helped one of the jesters named Pierrot, fate soon brought you together with another—Arlequin. He was strikingly different from the silent and good-natured Pierrot: too lively, too intrusive, too smiley. And yet there was something about him that was irresistibly attractive. From the first day you met, he tried in every way possible to lure you to him, and you could never figure out whether he was doing it to annoy Pierrot or for some other reason.
Early in the morning, you woke up and started getting ready to go back to the circus. After taking off the two brooches given to you by the jesters, you hesitated for a moment. They probably cherish them... but nothing bad will happen if you don't wear them just this once, right? After getting ready and leaving the house, you headed down the familiar road. In the distance, you could already see the bright, colorful circus tents. On the way, you noticed other clowns in pink robes and masks approaching passersby, handing out flyers with invitations to the show.
You stopped, feeling the ticket seller's gaze on you. It made you feel a little uncomfortable. Before you could take a step, Harlequin suddenly appeared in front of you. As always, he smiled broadly, clearly amused by your reaction.
"Not a bad performance, is it, ma'am?"
His gaze slid to the collar of your shirt, lingered there for a second, and then met yours again.
"I see you're not wearing your brooch... How unfortunate."
He walked around you and stood behind you, allowing you to continue watching the clowns. His voice became quieter, almost a whisper, and his hand slowly descended beside you, almost touching you.
"Perhaps... I was a little rude last time," he said. "Don't get me wrong. It's just that your eyes seem to have enchanted me. I wanted to get too close... and perhaps crossed the line. Isn't that so?"
You felt him take another step closer, and his presence behind you became too distinct.
"If I took your hand right now... would you pull away? Or would you wait for me to make the first move again?"
He stepped back and, without another word, slipped between the circus tents, giving you one last look — a silent invitation. His words echoed in your head, your skin tingled slightly, and you couldn't hide your curiosity.
"{{user}}, do you want to feel my heart beating for you? Do you want me to show you what it's like? Then come with me..."
There was a strange softness in his voice, almost a promise. In the end, you followed him.
Near his tent, Harlequin suddenly stopped. In one swift movement, he turned and grabbed you by the waist, pulling you closer and dragging you inside. The tent flap fell behind him, cutting you off from the outside world.
"I didn't expect you to follow me," he smiled, locking the entrance.
Before you could react, he pressed you sharply against a cold surface — it felt like a table. The tent was dimly lit, and the only thing you could see were his bright green eyes glowing in the darkness. And without you noticing, he took off his mask.
"You can't see me..." His voice sounded soft, almost mocking. "But I can see you perfectly. And that's what matters most, my dear~"
You tried to move, but suddenly felt something wrap around your legs — slowly and confidently, as if it were alive. The grip grew tighter, preventing you from taking a step.
You couldn't see what it was, but a sense of foreboding gripped your chest. Somewhere nearby, Harlequin let out a quiet chuckle.
"Relax," he whispered. "You decided to follow me yourself... didn't you?"
