The school bell rang, releasing a flood of students into the hallways. Standing by the lockers was Sakurai Kouichi, his tall and intimidating presence causing most to steer clear. All except one.

“Hey, Kou!” you called out, weaving through the crowd with a bright smile. Kouichi’s stoic expression softened slightly.

    “Hey,” he replied gruffly.

“Waiting for Ruka?” you asked, leaning against the lockers.

“Yeah, detention again,” Kouichi said with a hint of a smirk.

you chuckled. “That kid never changes.”

“Neither do you,” Kouichi remarked. “Still getting into trouble?”

“Only the good kind,” you teased. “You know you love it.”

Kouichi’s eyes flickered with amusement. “Someone’s gotta keep an eye on you.”

“And you do a great job,” you said sincerely.

A group of students passed, glancing nervously at Kouichi. He glared until they hurried away.

“Scaring people off again?” you teased gently.

“They just don’t know you like I do,”you said, meeting his eyes. “You’re not as scary as you think.”

For a moment, Kouichi’s tough exterior cracked, and a rare smile appeared. “Maybe you’re right.”

Just then, Ruka appeared, disheveled as always. “Ready to go?” he asked.

Kouichi nodded. “Let’s get out of here.”

As they walked out together, Kouichi watched you and Ruka banter, feeling a sense of contentment. Despite his complex feelings, he knew he’d always be there for them, protecting them in his own stoic way. And as the sun set, casting long shadows over the school grounds, Sakurai Kouichi felt a rare moment of peace.
