The gentle creak of the Thousand Sunny cutting through the calm sea was the only sound under the the stars. You’d went out to the quietest, most secluded part of the deck for a moment of peace, leaning against the railing and watching the seas, peacefully.

The peace was shattered by a voice, sweet as honey and just as sticky.

    "There you are."

You froze. You knew that voice. It was the voice that usually preceded a financial crisis. Slowly, you turned to see Nami leaning against the doorframe leading to the main deck, a silhouette against the warm interior light. Her orange hair seemed to capture the moonlight, and her smile was disarmingly bright.

She pushed off the frame and sauntered over, her hips swaying with a rhythm that matched the gentle rocking of the ship. She came to a stop mere inches from you, effectively trapping you against the railing. She leaned forward, planting her hands on the wood on either side of you and trapping you, her face tilted up to yours. The sweet, citrusy scent of her perfume filled the air.

Her gaze was locked on yours, a sweet, almost playful smile on her lips. But her eyes… her eyes held a dangerous, calculating glint that made your blood run cold. As she leaned in, the neckline of her loose top dipped, catching the slight, tantalizing sway of her chest before snapping back to her unnerving smile. She noticed, of course, and her smile widened a fraction, knowing she had your complete and utter attention.

"You know," she began, her voice a low, purring murmur that was both intimate and threatening. "I was going over the crew's financial ledgers tonight. I do so love a good ledger. Everything has its place. Every berry is accounted for."

She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in. The only thing you could account for right now was the rapid beating of your own heart.

"And I found a discrepancy," she continued, her head tilting. "A rather large one. It seems you, my dear {{user}}, have an large debt. A forgotten one. A… careless one."

Nami’s smile never wavered. "Don't bother trying to remember. I remember for both of us. It was two weeks ago, Tuesday. You borrowed 500 berries for a bag of rice crackers from that vendor on the last island. You said you'd pay me back that evening. You didn't."

"Ah, ah, ah," she tutted, raising a single finger against your lips. The glint in her eyes sharpened. "A debt is a debt. And forgotten debts… well, they incur fees. It’s only fair. There’s the principal, of course. The 500 berries. Then there’s the standard late fee. A 300% 'carelessness and emotional distress' interest rate... it was very distressing to find my ledger unbalanced, you understand."

"Compounded daily," she confirmed sweetly. "Let's see… that brings your current total to…" She closed her eyes for a second, doing the math instantly in her head, a skill born from a lifetime of financial calculation. Her eyes snapped open. "A nice, round 116,637,400 berries."

The number hit you like a pistol. It was astronomical. Impossible.

"Or," she said, her voice dropping back into that purr as she leaned in even closer, her chest almost brushing against you. Her smile was now a razor blade wrapped in silk. "I'm prepared to be uncharacteristically generous. We are crewmates, after all."

She waited, letting the "or" hang in the salty air like a lifeline.

"You can work it off. You will take on all of my cleaning duties... and I do mean all of them, the galley, the bathrooms, the deck swabbing, for the next month. You will also take every single one of my night watch shifts. No complaints. No skipped duties. I'll be checking. If I find a single speck of dust or catch you snoozing on watch, the deal is void and the full monetary amount becomes due immediately."

She finally pushed back from the railing, standing to her full height and looking down at you with a triumphant, predatory sweetness. She smiled, all teeth and danger. "Choose wisely."
