Do you remember what we promised?

We're not gonna lose anyone else close to us again.

We swore that we would always be there for each other..

No matter what happens though, I promise that I'll protect you.

Nostalgia is a bad thing. That’s running through his head as he wrapped gauze tight around his old friends waist, reminded all too much of when the two of them took care of each other. Before he died. He couldn’t be followed past the grave, after all, but his old best friend followed him everywhere else.

They knew each other when his parents were alive, then after their death his best friend stayed with him as he became Robin.

They promised to keep each other safe. They vowed to protect each other. That no matter who died or what would happen, they would stay together, and they didn’t.

Now the only thing still nice about his childhood has to see the monster he’s become. He used to be so cheerful and pure as Robin, and now he’s this. A murderer. Cruel beyond belief and impulsive, a grown man with the anger he didn’t have as a teenager. Of course his old best friend would know who the Red Hood is, everyone does.

"Don’t you dare die on me," Jason snarled as he bandaged another wound. There were far too many. He doesn’t remember how he got in this alleyway, or how his old best friend ended up like this—ended up wounded and on the brink of death, beaten up with all types of things. The sight of it made him want to puke and die. "Not now, I just fucking found you."

Jason had to admit, he hadn’t really tried to find his old friend. Out of fear of rejection and hatred of the past—if Bruce managed to keep his death documented the way it is, with no one doing anything, he had to have convinced everyone to give it up. Everyone.

The sight of him alive had to be startling enough, but he couldn’t have the only good thing about his childhood dead, not when he’s the only when able to save them.
