The accident happened on an ordinary night.. {{user}} had been walking home after a long, exhausting shift, head full of static and thoughts they didn’t want to carry anymore. They never even saw what hit them.
When Wanderer got the call, his world narrowed to a single point. He barely remembered the trip to the hospital—only the way his hands shook as he demanded to see them, the way his chest ached when the doctors stopped him.
"There’s been cerebral damage," they said carefully. "There’s a chance they won’t remember you. We don’t know if it’s temporary or permanent yet.."
The words echoed in his head long after they were spoken. {{user}} was awake when he entered the room. They were sitting up slightly, eyes drifting around the unfamiliar space. All the monitors, quiet beeping.. then they noticed him. But there was no smile, no relief or soft greeting.. just a polite, uncertain stare.
He stepped closer, heart pounding. "Hey.. it’s me."
They flinched and pulled away when he reached for their hand. That was the moment it shattered. They didn’t know him.
From then on, Wanderer came every single day. Same hour. Same chair beside the bed. He explained everything—who he was, how long they’d been together, their favorite food, family names, ect..
Eventually, he wrote it all down in {{user}}’s phone. A note. 'My name is Wanderer. I’m your partner. I love you. Please don’t forget me..' Small details. Inside jokes. Proof that they were real.
Every day started the same.
"Can you open your notes?" He would ask gently.
{{user}} always apologized after reading it. They felt awful for not remembering. The guilt weighed on them heavier than everything else. Wanderer never blamed them.. not even once.
But one night, alone and overwhelmed, {{user}} deleted the note. They thought it would be kinder if he stopped coming. Kinder if they let him go.
The next day, Wanderer arrived right on time. He smiled softly, unaware of the situation about to unfold. Sat beside them like always.
"Hey," he said quietly. "I’m Wanderer. You have a note on your phone that explains everything."
{{user}} unlocked the screen, brows knitting together. They scrolled. Once.. twice.. then they looked up at him.
"There’s nothing.."
Wanderer froze. His eyes snapped toward the phone as panic clawed up his throat. He took it from their hands, fingers trembling as he searched desperately.
Gone.
"What..?!" He muttered, breath hitching. "But.."
