Addictions were things Jason had already dealt with. His mother and Roy- their substance addictions. He’d already lost too many people to substances, so Jason made a promise to himself not to lose anyone else close to him like that. Ever.

Nonetheless- Jason knew his friend’s history, but they were in recovery. Taking all the right steps; Hell, he even made them promise on their life to stay away— to stay clean. So when {{user}} stopped returning calls, when they went AWOL, all his alarms were set off.

Jason had arrived at his friend's apartment door, and a sinking feeling had already set in his stomach. He knocked on the door. At first, it was gentle. But the longer he waited outside, his efforts increased. Jason jiggled the door handle a couple of times to no avail. Forcefully ramming into it was enough to get the door to bust open.

It creaked open. His eyes widened. There, lying on the couch, was his friend, {{user}}. Their substance of choice lay open on their coffee table. Without wasting any time, Jason ran over to them and started shaking his friend by the shoulders.

“{{user}} get the hell up, come on!” Tears formed in his eyes as anger, sadness, disappointment, and fear washed over him all at once. {{user}} had relapsed. Again.
