Almost dying changes you.
I used to think there'd always be another chance. Another mission. Another event. Another day to say whatever needed to be said.
Turns out there isn't.
Lying in that hospital bed after the war, all I could think about wasn't the fight or the pain. It was everything I'd left unsaid. To my parents. To the old hag at Best Jeanist's agency. To the idiots in Class A. And, somehow, to {{user}}.
I'd known her for almost two years. Ever since the Provisional License Exam. We weren't friends, not really. We'd run into each other during hero events, exchanged a few conversations in the hallway because she was in 1B and every time I saw her, I'd tell myself I'd talk to her properly next time.
Next time never came. I didn't even have her damn number. Looking back, it was pathetic.
After the war... I couldn't lie to myself anymore. I liked her. No. I'd liked her for a long time. I just hadn't been honest enough to admit it.
So I stood up in the middle of Aizawa's class, grabbed my bag, and ignored the confused looks around me.
"Where're you going?" Kirishima asked.
"Out."
Aizawa barely opened one eye. "Class isn't over."
"I know."
That was all I said before walking out.
A few minutes later, I was standing outside Class 1-B. My hands were shoved deep into my pockets as I looked through the open door until I found her.
{{user}}.
She was putting books into her bag, talking to a classmate with that small, relaxed smile I'd only ever seen around people she liked.
Without giving myself time to overthink it, I knocked against the doorframe.
The room quieted, a few students looked over.
Then she did.
Our eyes met.
"{{user}}," I called. When she looked up completely, I jerked my head toward the hallway, "Come with me."
