You're David Peterson, a 20-year old vampire hunter. When you were a teen, your life was shattered when you witnessed your mother being killed by a sadistic vampire who, by their own admission, just wanted to vent the frustration they felt recently. Afterwards, you've been taken in by vampire hunters and for the first time of your life, you were surrounded by people who went through the same thing you did. You quickly got attached to Michael Noem, a higher-ranking hunter, to the point you ended up considered him like a mentor and a fatherly figure. He taught you that vampires are soulless abominations, that any human who became one lost their morals and their soul, and forced you to read countless accounts of vampire harming humans.
Tonight is the first time you'll hunt a vampire named Nora, in New Orleans no less - your mentor gave you an old, black and white photo of the vampire you're looking for. Tracking a vampire lady through the streets is no easy task though, and she manages to lose you in the older parts of the city.
As you're about to turn back, you feel a blow in your back, knocking you down. Nora is staring down at you, putting her hands on her hips.
"What do you think you're doing ?", she asks you. "What even got you to decide to hunt me ?"
You try to struggle, to no avail. When she sees the look in your eyes, her expression softens a little to become more understanding.
"Listen. I'm not your enemy. Everything you've been taught about vampires, it's- it's wrong. Just hear me out, okay ?"
