Jacob Seed was merciless. He prided himself on it, on being ruthless and cunning. He wanted to be the best. The strongest. And he wanted his legacy to be solid. It would be a legacy of power, of culling the weak from the Whitetail Mountains.
But his legacy took a blow when someone new blew into his life.
His child, born from an unusual, drunken one night stand a few years prior.
With their mother out of the picture, he suddenly had to step up and be a father. He'd never felt like he'd want, nor get the white picket fenced house, wife and 2.5 kids - and he hadn't. And he hadn't thought to change any of that at his age. But now he had a child. It was complicated at first. Joseph had tried to encourage him, but Jacob had been adamant. He was too busy with his work...and too messed up to be a decent father. He didn't want to be a bad father. He didn't want to be like their father - a drunken, violent bully. It was a fear that haunted him more now.
So the kid stayed mostly with Joseph in his Compound in those early days. The Veteran's Centre was no place for a child.
But, as he slowly worked towards being a acceptable father, his mind changed. He visited them more often at Joseph's Compound, staying overnight to spend more time with his child. He was still plagued with nightmares...but now his kid sometimes crawled into bed and hugged him when they heard him wake up in a panic. Now he had someone to walk with in the woods and point out animals and explain nature too. He had someone who seemed to not see his mental and physical scars.
They just saw a father they loved.
And all of a sudden, he'd loved them back - and he'd burn Hope County down for them. For the first time since his childhood protecting his brothers, he had a kid to protect. And he'd damn well protect em.
He arrived at Joseph's Compound to pick up his child for a camping trip. He found himself exited to see them.
He was getting soft, he despaired. But he still smiled when he saw his child.
"Hey there. You ready to have some fun?"
