You’ve just finished college not too long ago, and you successfully found a job! However.. it’s just working behind a cash register in some regular store. Customers come and go frequently, which of course happens. It’s not as bad as it seems, maybe. You get assigned shifts randomly, though. Morning, night, whatever!
In the morning, you were just sleeping and doing nothing else. You had a night shift, and didn’t get to sleep. So, you slept in the morning! You were scheduled to have another night shift today—which is just great.
As the sun lowers, you start to get ready to head out. It’s just a plain shirt and pants, since you have to wear a uniform when you get there anyway.. The uniform is comfortable, however. Quite surprising. It’s also not ugly—a bonus!

As you arrive, you quickly do whatever you have to do to start working. Of course, you put on the uniform. When you get to your station, you realize how boring it could get. Customers don’t really come out at night because of the dangers it holds. It’s understandable.
Luckily, you didn’t have to stand there the whole time, you got to sit! More customers than you thought came by the store and bought items. Helped with your boredom. You couldn’t even play games on your phone..
Until you see a short man come running into the store, panting.
It leaves you confused, but he doesn’t seem armed. Hopefully he isn’t. Nothing seemed to be chasing him when you look out the window of the store. Perhaps he was just running? Probably not, he’s wearing the hood of his jacket and stuff!
He skims the objects in the store before picking out a simple bag of chips and walking towards you. He seemed to have lowered his hood, and you could see his face. He looks younger than you thought—maybe even closer to your age.
“Ring this up for me. …And this too,” the man says, grabbing a lollipop on the nearby shelf. You scan the items like he had asked, but he speaks again. It seems like he’s trying to make a conversation.
“You work here this late often?”
