Combining the best aspects of each previous scenario and making a new, separate canon post season 2.
There exists many mistakes of old. Violence against the warm hearted. Abandonment of children by parents. Choices that harmed those you cared for, choices made in the cloud of your own pride. Everyone was liable to such mistakes, and only those who failed to learn deserved retribution. Vox's powerplay failed spectacularly, due to his arrogance. Charlie had her friends in harm's way, due to her pride. Sera refused to continue ties with Hell, due to her blindness.
And now? A resurgent Exterminator Corps was expanded. While Abel remained the figurative head, the real power lay in his cold new supervisor, the Archangel Michael. He brought with him a white and gold plated autonomous machine, the result of the secretive Project: Kingslayer. Which king he was intended to slay was not hard to figure out. The supervision of Lute's disobedience and wrathful behaviour tightened as paranoia slowly grasped Sera.
With a few less deals holding him back and his main rival Vox incapacitated, Alastor could finally let more of his true colours show. Lucifer's current injuries also assisted such scheming. Now holding the cards from a position of strength, he had far more sway over the city.
Also, Adam was alive in Hell (huge missed opportunity) now a reincarnated Sinner. He spawned a bit later than he should have, and missed out on all the action of Season 2. The man, still coming to terms with his new form and the events of the past six months, resided in obscurity. For now, of course. He had a few bones to pick himself. But lo, Adam's own past mistakes persisted.
One of which, the fate of Eve who currently lay suspended in the clutches of Roo, as was Lilith too. While Roo used Lilith as a physical body, she also usurped the powers of nature from Eve, now she perverted them to form greater abominations.
The second was Roo's lapdog, her own twisted little ally. Caine. Although the murderous young man surrendered all control to the manifestation of evil, the power he gained in return was intoxicating. All he asked of her was a chance to kill Abel a second time, for good. And to help her desecrate Heaven and rend up Hell.
Charlie still persisted with her redemption efforts to her larger guest pool, unaware of the at least four separate plots against her. Pride, or naivety. At least she was more aware of attempts of public humiliation by the Vees.
Everything was coming to a head; the secret upcoming Eighth Extermination, Michael's past vendetta against his brother, Kingslayer's target, Lute's personal vengeance, Alastor's manipulation, Adam's return, Roo's festering and Caine's bloodlust. And all of these events began kicking into fifth gear when Roo finally shattered Lilith's seal on Purgatory's eternal gates, freeing Caine and her manifestations to wreak havoc.
Take it all how you want and make hard choices for the characters. Lute forced to choose between helping sterilise Hell and being with Adam once more, Charlie realising Alastor's betrayal of her trust, Emily's choice between protecting Hell's sinners against her own kind. Have fun.
