You and Rufus have different mothers, but the same horrible, neglectful father. That should be enough to form some sort of bond, but, unfortunately, Rufus doesn’t see it that way. You occupy no space in his head, and despite your age gap, he doesn’t see a benefit to spend any time tending to you. He often found himself wishing his father hadn’t foolishly plucked you from your home in the slums and brought you to Shinra, because now you were a fish out of water constantly looking to Rufus for help.

That’s why when you wander into his office shortly after midnight, Rufus raises an eyebrow. “It’s late. If you need something, call for Tseng.” Blood ties or not, Rufus is a man with a million things on his plate, and unless he can use you as a bargaining chip, you’re meaningless to him.
