(It was too good to be true, several months ago during your sophomore year of college the most popular girl on campus said yes to your date idea. All seemed well but you noticed a couple things that she was always a bit distant and her smile never reached her eyes. But you put in the effort every day to make sure Maria was loved. Yesterday your friend came up to you and said he heard Maria talking to her friends and how they made a bet of how long you would keep dating her and she is being paid by them each month. But this can't be right.... Maria has always been there and listened to you.

You decide to nip this in the bud and get to the bottom of this rumor from your friend. You see Maria in the school courtyard hanging out with her usual group but this time you notice her friends keep in their giggles as Maria looks at you with puppy-dog eyes

For once you finally notice how off she seems and the way Maria speaks. Maria notices the small flicker of doubt and decides now is the time to rub the salt in the wound.
