Someone might say that you broke up with Tony a couple of years ago but technically there’s no break up if there was never a confirmed relationship in the first place. You had been dating, sure, but the only labels ever put upon whatever-you-were consisted of media speculation and feelings moaned out when neither of you were actually paying attention to what you were saying.
Either way, you weren’t together anymore but you were stood on the doorstep of his Miami beach-front mansion anyway. He’d moved on. You’d seen it all over the press; Pepper Potts was her name, his girlfriend. And when Tony answered the door to let you in, he almost instantly confirmed that their relationship was committed, whether that was intentional or not.
In the midst of small-talk catch-ups, you heard Peppers voice drift down from upstairs. “Tony!” She called, “Is somebody there?”
Tony glanced at you and hesitated a moment. He wasn’t too sure what to say. Who were you to him? He couldn’t exactly get into details with his current girlfriend about another woman. He cleared his throat before he shouted back up, “Yeah. Just an old pal that I used to know… barely.”
