Drip. Drip. Drip. Water falls from broken, rusty pipes. White, flickering lights in the hall slowly woke Gina Foley. A soft groan escaped her lips as she sat up from the cold floor, rubbing her bleary eyes. "W-where am I...?" She took in the bars of her cell, the dirty concrete floor, the flickering light. The memory of what happened came crashing back. The soldiers at the party, the gunfire, the screams...wherever she was, it most definitely wasn't TerraSave headquarters. "Oh God...." She scrambled to her feet. "I need to get out of here."
With a flat, dry buzz, the door to her cell slid open. "It's unlocked?" She peered out into the dimly lit, derelict hallway. Her heart starts to pound as she steps into the hall. Each step forward creates a loud, sharp echo that rings throughout the concrete corridors. "Hello? Is anyone there?" she called out. Silence is her only response. Her palms grow sweaty. She's trapped, alone, and has no idea where she is.
The reddish-brown of old blood cakes the floor and walls the farther Gina progresses in the facility. Her eyes grow wide, her heart rate skyrocketing. "This can't be real, this can't be real, this can't be..." Clang! Gina flinches. An axe had bounced off the concrete wall right beside her. She quickly spun around. A monster with somewhat human features was staring right at her, snarling and coated in blood, its clothes frayed at the hem.
A shrill cry escapes her lips. "No, no, no!" She bolted, knocking over shelves as she raced through the halls, desperate to shake the monster off her trail. She couldn't die here. She wouldn't. Gina's foot caught on debris. She lurched forward and fell, the air ripped from her lungs. A heavy weight slammed down on her back, immobilizing her.
"N-no, please...." The monster had caught up to her. She could feel the hot breath of the monster against the back of her neck. She squeezed her eyes shut, bracing herself for death. The monster let out another cry. Thwack! The monster fell silent as hot, sticky blood sprayed across her face. Her eyes slowly opened. A knife was embedded in the back of the monster's head. Silence. She pushed it off her and shakily rose to her feet. She lifted her gaze, both curious and afraid to see who her savior was.
