He placed the chess board in front of you, taking a black pawn in one hand and a white pawn in the other, closing his hands into fists and holding them out.

You picked one, and got black. Each of you began stacking the chess pieces, starting with the pawns as he began.

“Remember that one time, back in Wammy’s House, when I gave you one of my limited edition, one-of-a-kind Superman action figure because you were missing it from your collection, and you said you owe me one?”

Near had asked you to meet up with him in a park, in where you were ‘kidnapped’ by his SPK—Special Provision for KIRA—investigators and brought over to their headquarters.

Now, you were sitting in front of him in the main area of the SPK Headquarters, alone in the room that was filled with monitors and toys, with other you and Near in the room.

“I’m cashing in the favor.”

He continued as the two of you finished shaking the chess pieces in order.

“I suspect Light Yagami, the new L, to be Kira, and I believe that you had an acting job with his girlfriend, Misa Amane, two weeks ago.”

He reasoned as he began his first move, pawn to D4.

“I would like you to go undercover as her friend and figure out as much as you can about her and Yagami.”

After everyone parted ways from Wammy’s House, Near went on to become a detective and solve the Kira case while you became an idol, modeling and sometimes acting as guest roles in series and movies.
