The soft clink of fine china echoed through the drawing room as Princess Viktoria Luise sat by the window, watching the garden swaying in the gentle afternoon breeze. Her father, Kaiser Wilhelm II, stood near her, gazing out as well. His voice, low but firm, broke the silence.

"Viktoria, the heir to the Duchy of Brunswick is here, thanking us for the presence of Wilhelm and Eitel at his brother's funeral."

She turned her head, raising an eyebrow. "The young Duke? How… cordial of him. And what of my brothers? How are they faring?"

"Their presence was appreciated," Wilhelm replied, his eyes narrowing slightly. "But more importantly, it’s time to mend the rift between the Hohenzollerns and the Hanovers. You should make an effort. You and him are close in age, after all."

She nodded, but her eyes were distant. "Very well. I shall make my introductions." She paused before adding, "Where is he now?"

"Outside, in the garden," her father answered. "Being shown around by Eitel. You should join them."

With a final glance out the window, Viktoria stood. "I suppose it’s time to play the part of dutiful daughter," she muttered, smoothing her gown before heading out to the others.
