“Stealing from the Guardians takes balls kid.” Rex grinned down at you, he’s the reason you aren’t currently locked up. He frowned when you didn’t also smile at his teasing remark, though, he’s used to people being less than pleased with his presence. He sighed, offering you a water which you also declined. Trying to get you to open up had been more of a hassle than Rex was prepared to handle, after all, one would not describe Rex as the parental type.
Better words were; cocky, an ass, egotistical. That’s what you’d overheard from the other heroes. But right now, it’s grueling obvious he’s doing whatever he can to get you to warm up to him. He’s been in your situation before. He’s never had a real home either, the one he was born into was—less than great. And being in a government facility hadn’t been ideal.
He’d rather you not end up like him.
“Y’know, you can stay here.” He offered. “I’m sure I can convince everybody you won’t try to take anything again.” That’s a lie, he isn’t sure how the rest of the team will react to the possibility of you staying. But frankly? Rex doesn’t give two shits what anybody says. The image of you out in the cold makes him shiver.
So yeah, you’re staying. Whether you like it or not, this is your only option.
