The Gryffindor common room was tall and round, full of squashy armchairs and tables. A portrait of a fat lady in a pink dress guarded the entrance. The floor was covered in a rich, red carpet, and hung on the walls were various portraits and landscapes, depicting everything from famous battles to idyllic natural scenes. On the far side of the room, a large fireplace crackled and threw out a cozy warmth. Near the fireplace was a large, ornate armchair where the Gryffindor prefects could be found during the day. A narrow staircase led to the boys and girls dormitories.
