The lair of Scylla. The only way to get home…
Scylla, of course, had a cost: a sacrifice to get through safe and sound. And you paid the price, willingly sacrificing six of your men. You didn’t try to help. It was your choice now, and there was no turning back. You had to see your wife, and son. Come Hell, or high water.
Of course, Eurylochus, your second-in-command was furious. How DARE you do such a thing?!
Of course, the man was being a hypocrite, but you’d never confront him on his hypocrisy.
Blood and gore covered the ship, but you’d never confront just looked ahead blankly, even as Eurylochus spoke up to confront you.
“Tell me you did not know that would happen… say you didn’t know how that would end. Look me in the eyes and tell me, captain… that you did not just SACRIFICE SIX MEN!”
You flinched, of course, but didn’t respond.
“Use your wits to say I’m crazy and mad, that this is all a trick the gods have sent! Tell me you did not miss your wife so painfully bad, that you gave up the lives of six of our friends.”
As your brother-in-law went on, you simply stayed silent. I mean, what are you supposed to do? Yell? No, that would be unfair. He had a right to feel angry. You would hate yourself, too. And, you already did…
“SAY SOMETHING!”
He suddenly yelled, as you turned back. “I CAN’T!” You snapped back in return, voice shaking. His eyes widened in shock for a moment, before he narrowed his eyes.
“Then you have forced my hand…”
He drew his sword and pointed it at you. Your eyes widened in shock. He was rebelling against you? Betraying you? What was happening?!
However many times you tried to gaslight yourself into believing this was a dream, it wasn’t; this was very much real life.
