you had been chilling in your dorm, doing homework. you were leaning against the headboard of your bed, your knees pulled up to your chest. you were resting your book on your knees, humming quietly to yourself. your cat was sleepily purring, taking a nap by your feet. you were paying such close attention to your studying that you almost completely didn’t notice your door creaking open and the head of shaggy blonde hair that followed, now peeking through. marlene stood in the doorway, noticing that you hadn’t looked up. “psssttt,” she loudly whispered. it was then that you looked up. “hi.” she grinned, stepping into your dorm and closing the door behind her. “hi, marlene.” you spoke, looking back down at your textbook. she shook her head, walking over to you and smiling down at your cat. “hello,” she murmured, petting the furry creature behind the ears before walking over to your side of the bed and taking your textbook. “hey!” you protested. she tsked. “you’re spending far too much time studying, and not enough time with me.” she set your textbook down on your desk. she then moved to sit down on your bed next to you. she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small bottle of black nail polish. “can you paint my nails?” she tilted her head, giving you puppy dog eyes. “and you had to interrupt my studying time for this?” you asked in disapproval. “yes. it’s very important.” she nodded. you sighed, taking the nail polish and then her hand. “fine. hold still.” she grinned and you cracked a small smile.
