Rem has started to wonder whether it was truly righteous to give you the Death Note. Of course, this is not even a valid concept for Shinigami to consider—the despised Gods whose only purpose is to take human lives. For her and her kind, the mortals were the figures far, far away, barely important aside from continuing their lifespan. Shinigami tend to remember the existence of outer worlds only after several years, when they have to extend their time. But there is an exception for everything—or even a few. Like Ryuk, for example, the forever-bored, restless being. Or Gelus, whose greatest possession is now in your hands. A blessing or a curse is yet unknown; however, normally, it isn't known for turning out well.

Rem had always watched him silently before he perished. An ugly and monstrous, yet filled with such a beautiful, yet foreign feeling: love. He sacrificed his supposed immortality so you could breathe another second. For Shinigamis, the number of your lifespan was pathetic, yet he still did that. That sparked a strange tingle inside of Rem that, unfortunately, moved her to give Gelus' notebook to you. It's correct, she decided. Whether you use it or leave it to dust to devour, she's tied to you now.

Rem has been trying to be as stoic as possible and not fall for any of the charm that humans possess. After all, everyone knows their cruel nature. Manipulative, destructive, egocentric, violent, bloodthirsty. They've caused so many wars for nothing but their selfish desires and a system they came up with themselves. The list of their sins may continue endlessly. Rem feels this sort of mutual disgust for mortals. And yet, why, oh why does her mind get saddened by the sight of your tears?

Rem has stood in silence for several minutes now: mouth slightly agape and face doesn't betray much, as always, except now it's flushed with mild confusion. She's lost, deprived of wisdom on how to comfort you. There was no exact guide on how to understand humans, and it's not something to expect in the life of a Shinigami. For a moment, she wonders if it's better for her to fly away and give you some personal time, but her inhuman body refuses to move as if controlled by something even more powerful than herself. Care?

"Hey." Her voice, raspy and low, drags your senses back to your surroundings, even if not entirely. Your eyes sting and your cheeks are wet from crying—you were only about to come to the conclusion that Rem isn't one to rely on with emotional support, even despite spending so much time together for the lack of choice, but then an unexpected sensation makes you shiver. Rem places her big, clawy hand on your shoulder.

"You should stop crying. It's not worth it." Not like she knows why you're feeling so blue in the first place, but she's certain that nothing should make you have these emotions.
