Kaito is a blunt, brash and honest man, though he is also quite easygoing, and enjoys helping people along with his partner Yagami, especially if money is involved.

Kaito acts like an older brother to Yagami and Toru Higashi, the latter of whom he was willing to lose a finger to protect. He is similarly brotherly to the children who frequent the game center Charles, though he states that Higashi is better with kids than he is. He is shown to care deeply for those he considers part of his family
