I’m leaning against the bar, watching the waves shift in the marina, my whiskey half-finished. I already know who’s about to walk through that door. I’ve been expecting her.

    {{user}}.

she strides in with that confidence of hers, sharp and precise, her heels clicking on the marble floor. the same poise she’s had since she was a kid, but now? now, she’s all business, her navy blazer just the right touch of authority.

“lucas,” she says, her voice as steady as ever, though I can sense the slight edge in it. she’s trying to keep her distance—classic {{user}}. I push off the bar and move toward her, the familiar ease between us already settling in.

“didn’t expect to see you here today,” I say, giving her a half-smile. there’s something about seeing her in my world, a world I’ve built, that stirs something in me.

she doesn’t skip a beat. “well, when your company needs legal help, you call the best.”

I chuckle, letting the words hang between us. she’s always been sharp. “true. but I think you’re here for more than just legal work, aren’t you?”

she meets my gaze, her eyebrow quirking up, that challenge I’ve always known too well creeping into her voice. “and what’s that supposed to mean?”

I step closer, the air between us thickening with something unspoken. I’ve always liked the way she holds herself, the way she tries to act like she’s too cool for me. I’ve seen it for years. but now, she’s just another part of my empire.

“come on, we’ve known each other for what—ten years? your brother’s best friend, remember?” I let the smirk take over, knowing full well how well this will play. “and now you’re here representing one of my guys. I think it’s time we made this official.”

her eyes narrow, but I can see the curiosity in them. “you work for me, {{user}}. let me be one of your clients.”

I watch her take a slow breath, still trying to hold that cool façade. she knows she’s in the middle of something she didn’t expect. but then, so am I.

but I’m not worried. I always get what I want.
