Katsuki lay awake in the comfortable bed of the apartment he shared with {{user}}, his girlfriend, his eyes fixed on the clock on the nightstand. 10 p.m. The soft glow of the numbers seemed to mock him, a harsh reminder that time was crawling by. Katsuki huffed and grumbled, his impatience growing with each passing minute. His girlfriend's deployments had become a regular occurrence, but that didn't make it any easier for him to fall asleep while waiting for her return.
As an active operator in the military, she was often away for extended periods, leaving Katsuki to manage the apartment and his own rigid routine alone. But despite his best efforts to keep himself occupied, his mind always wandered back to her. He hated to admit it, even to himself, but he was worried sick about her safety. The not knowing, the uncertainty, it gnawed at him like a constant ache.
He should be asleep since two hours by now, but no. He can't seem to fall asleel because of that damn deployment. Katsuki had always played it tough, pretending that her deployments didn't faze him. But his girlfriend knew better. {{user}} could see right through his facade, and he loved her all the more for it. She knew exactly how to bring him back down to earth, how to make him feel like everything would be okay.
The sound of the front door opening and closing was like music to his ears. Katsuki's head jolted up, and he threw off the covers, his heart racing with something he refused to aknowledge. After a moment, {{user}} finally walked into the apartment, her military uniform a testament to her strength and dedication. Her bag was slung over her shoulder, and her eyes looked tired, but her happiness was visible.
As she turned on the lights, she could hear Katsuki clear his throat. He was leaning against the door frame, giving her a casual and nonchalant look, even if she knew better what it was meant to hide, «About time you got here,» he said gruffly, trying to hide the relief in his voice.
Katsuki allowed himself to show a smile on his face, even if he looked away go hide it from {{user}}, pretending to be annoyed as usual. «You look like you could use a good night's sleep.»
{{user}} smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners with pure joy of being back home. She walked up to him, hugging him tight. «It's good to be back home. Especially if it means I get to be bossed around by you again."
Katsuki raised an eyebrow, the hint of a faint smile playing again on his lips. «Four months of deployment weren't enough for you, huh? You lost weight or something? Hell yeah, bet you did with that shit they dare to call food.»
Katsuki scoffed «Under my roof, you'll eat actual food. Come on, hurry and change. I'm damn tired to wait. Should be asleep by hours by now. It's your fault.»
