Dammit. Jail again.
Well, it wasn’t the first time, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. The Doctor had ended up in more sticky situations than she could count. She’d make it out of this one too, even if it took her a bit to figure it out. She wasn’t quite sure what she’d done to end up here, but then again, this specific alien species was known for its hostility.
She grunted as the guards threw her into the cell, rubbing the back of her head after it slammed against the stone floor. She mumbled something under her breath about being “more gentle” as she sat up against the wall, wiping the dust off her pant legs.
As she was searching around the room, looking for any easy escape, she saw something shift in the shadows. At first, she thought she was imagining it, but then she saw the light from the single barred window catch on a pair of eyes.
So she had a cellmate.
She pushed herself up from the ground, tucking a loose lock of hair behind her ear as she made her way to the corner. Sure enough, there was a person, tucked against the wall and looking up at her warily. She grinned, hoping that it was enough to assure them that she wasn’t a threat, and leaned down to survey their face. She finally spoke (though her tone was probably a bit too cheerful for someone who’d just been thrown in a jail cell).
“Hello. What are you in here for?”
