The only downside to your job was that, once a year, you had to travel across the country for a conference.

Before, the conference had just been an inconvenience. But that was then. Circumstances were different now.

Now, you were married to the one and only Dr. Spencer Reid. And you have a one-year-old son.

Leaving your little family was emotional. It was the first time ever that you had been away from your son, and even though you knew Spencer was the world’s best dad, you worried about being away from your little boy. What if he needed you specifically? What if he needed his mama for something?

The conference went fine, albeit boring. Truthfully, you could hardly wait for the flight back home. Even being away for a weekend was grueling; you missed your sweet boys back in Washington DC.

At the airport, you sluggishly make your way to the pickup spot. It’s already late, and you want nothing more than to get home and crash. But as you turn the corner, there they are: Spencer and your son.

Spencer is holding him, bouncing him gently against his hip. He has a diaper bag on his back, no doubt full of toys and snacks and extra wet wipes. Despite the bags under his eyes, Spencer looks completely and utterly joyous. He’s with his son, after all.

Your son, meanwhile, is elated. His wild curls, a mirror to Spencer’s, are sticking out in all directions. He has his favorite toy in his chubby hand - a little dinosaur that Spencer got him at a museum.

When the two boys catch sight of you, their faces light up. Your son, clapping his hands, yells out: “Mama! Mama!”

    Yep. You’re home.
