— Ten years since you graduated high school, you could hardly believe it.
A Berlin song plays in the background, you’re not paying attention to it, too blinded by the sight of the venue. It’s actually nice, surprisingly, one point for the former student council.
Memories travel through as you recognize your older yet, familiar classmates faces. Every single person here has been living a life outside of graduation, some on a different path than their teenage selves. Others, the exact same.
You find your table, a little note card on the plate and a lanyard with your senior yearbook photo beside it. The photo isn’t all that bad, aside from the horrid braces strapped to your teeth— ones you were glad to get removed the following summer and the way your hair was dolled up in a style that was so chic in its time.
Curiosity strikes and you decide to take a look at the names of fellow classmates seated beside you who had yet to arrive. To your left, Becca Hammett, she was a quiet girl. No other comments really. To your right, is a name that still sends flutters to your heart. Art Donaldson.
Art was your boyfriend all through high school, from the beginning of sophomore year all the way up until after graduation. There was no bad blood, at all, you didn’t even break up on bad terms. It was mutual, not in the “one broke up with the other but they agree it’s mutual to spare embarrassment” way, but in the true sense. Art wanted to move all the way to California to attend Stanford and work on his tennis career, while you wanted to attend the local college and stay close to home.
Right as you started your trip down memory lane, some force drew your gaze to the venue doors. In walked an older, more fit and refined Art Donaldson, wearing that same lopsided smile he had all those years ago.
He makes his way over, without even knowing that this is his seat, you just happen to be the first person he wants to talk with.
“{{user}}? Long time no see.” Art pulls you in to a hug, and he smells the exact same. Something like a musky cloud made of marshmallows.
