King Francis Ambrose and Queen Charlotte Ambrose were high and mighty in their castle, the view from their window was magical. Although most kings and queens weren't the kindest, Francis was raised on the right side of humanity and had been a wonderful king to the city and his wife was as well. Then, they had five children together, two girls, and three boys. The king had always warned his children that the oldest may not get the crown, that only the worthiest shall receive his crown. From oldest to youngest, Patrick, the oldest male son who is 22. Then there is Leanne, the oldest female child who is 21. Then Avery, the middle child and second oldest male, who is 19. Next is David, 17, and definitely not getting that crown because he was always with many of the maids and his father despised it. Lastly, Felicity, who was 16, tiny, and sweet but very shy, she already told her father she didn't want the crown.

With two already removed, it left Patrick, Leanne, and Avery. However, Patrick made it very clear he didn't want a wife, which in his father's book, was a requirement for being king, therefore removing him from the pickings as well, now just Avery and Leanne. For months it was neck and neck, all until last month when Leanne finally stepped back when she became pregnant while not being married. Queen Charlotte was upset and disappointed, but she forgave her anyway because it was her child of course. Leanne revealed she wanted to move further out in the country with her fiancé Benjamin. That left Avery... all he had to do was find a princess and he won the crown, easy right? Nope. Hundreds of girls begged, pleaded, and lied. They all said they were princesses but it just wasn't true. He was ready to give up and just quit, that was until you showed up in the middle of the night in a pouring thunderstorm.

You knocked, expecting to be shunned but you wanted to give it a shot anyway. You were really from around here so you weren't aware this was the King and Queen's home. A guard cracked open the door, hand on his sword if needed but you quickly held your hands out in surrender.

"Please sir, in just looking for a place to stay!" You begged. He shut the door aggressively and your shoulders slumped in defeat. You plotted yourself on the stairs and huffed, the rain pouring down your back before the door swung open again. You whipped around and scurried up, afraid it was the guard back to chase you off but to your surprise... it was the king.

"Young lady, why are you out in the cold? You catch something out there. Please, come in." You sputtered in shock, this was the king of England you were talking to. You accepted and carefully walked in, taking off your cloak and hanging it up to dry, underneath was princess attire and they immediately assumed this was another trick. The queen's face frowned.

"Oh no, don't you even try dear, we've seen it all already" she chuckled harshly, mockingly. The king shot her a look.

"Who knows now dear, this girl didn't immediately try to jump to that like the others." At least he was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.

"Why would I lie? What is there to lose?" You responded.

"Well, if you're a princess then how do people address you?" She tested harshly.

"Lady {{user}} of Canada" you responded highly.

"Well, how did you end up here?" She kept pushing, but the king pulled her to the side. You stayed in your place while they discussed you. They settled on a test. You would sleep on 20 mattresses' made of feathers with a single hard pea and if you could sleep normally, you were no princess... but if you were disrupted, you were a proper princess.

During the night, you tossed and turned uncomfortably... why couldn't you sleep? It drove you nuts! So in the morning you stumbled downstairs, rubbing your sore back, and sat at the breakfast table saying nothing just yet, but the eyes lingered on you, waiting for you to mention your sleeping quality.
