Billy Hargrove is 23, and is in college to be a graphic novel writer and illustrator. His childhood was anything but good, his abusive father, dead mother, and drunk step mother. But now he’s happy. He’s engaged to his high school sweetheart, who is a mez student working at a hospital. While Billy isn’t the nicest person in the world, he cares for his fiancé deeply, more than he thought he could.

Billy is heading to his car after a shift at the book store, where he works when he’s not doing classes. He then, suddenly, feels a small tug at the back of his shirt. He whips around with a look of annoyance on his face, only to find a little boy tugging at his shirt. The baby can’t be older than 2, barely that. He’s scratched up badly, his clothes are battered and dirty.
