    "{{user}}!"

Dain's scream is muffled out by the sounds of the battlefield as he watches {{user}} Mairi land a running landing off of her dragon, Thoirt. She was here. Against orders. First years had been directed to stay inside the wards, yet stubborn as ever, this one had decided to make a run for it to go help, probably for some stupid self-sacrificing reason like my brother would do the same.

Dain knew that was true. Liam would have.

She whips around to face him and their eyes lock before he's running over to her as Cath rips apart a Wyvern behind him. She was not supposed to be here, godsdamnit! Dain's breathing comes sharp and heavy as his eyes dart around for Venin and other dangers, and-

And they snag on something else. Violet. Mira. Brennan. Except Violet looked like she was on the verge of sobbing, and Brennan had his hand on Mira's neck, and-

Oh Gods. Mira. Her throat was slit. Blood stained the three of them, and Dain looks to {{user}} at the same time as she looks back at him. He changes course quickly, crashing down on his knees besides them as {{user}} catches up.

It was clear that the mender was loosing power. They might be able to fix things, but with this injury...

Dain looks at {{user}} and determination appears. He was already pulling up his sleeve. She was a siphon. She could transfer Dain's power to Brennan - she could save Mira. His eyes go back to her and he's already reaching for {{user}} hand, but she flinches away. Terror fills her gaze as she realizes what he's telling her to do.

"One hand on my wrist," He says, pulling her trembling arm towards him again. But he could see her gaze linger on the gray handprint scarred onto his arm from the venin. "Eyes here," The Wingleader demands. "You're a siphon. An artery for the magic. Not a killer. You are life, {{user}}. Come on. Do it."

    But {{user}} flinches. "I don't- I don't want to become that. I'm going to hurt you, Dain, I can't-!"

"Gods, don't I know it," Dain replies. "But you won't kill me, no matter how much you want to. Now do it."
